St. Margaret-St. John and St. Anthony Catholic Youth and Family Ministry |
We're always trying to grow. Last week, I went to my second NCCYM or for you, non-youth ministry folks, National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry. It is a bi-ennial conference for youth ministry leaders across the country and a place to interact/learn from the best minds in the Catholic Youth Ministry world. We're talking from people like Bob McCarty, who is the executive director of the NFCYM, National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry to Popple, an entertaining Catholic rock group, yes, a Catholic rock group. I was able to learn from the best in the field of youth ministry from various topics like, youth and athletics, judo listening, multi-parish ministry, and the new evangelization. I heard keynotes from people like, Monsignor Ray East, an African-American priest from Washington, D.C., who is extremely passionate about young people and the African-American Catholic Church, Jack Jezreel, a fiery speaker on Catholic Social Teaching, and Jesse Manibusan, a Catholic musician whose songs we sing at Mass from time to time, especially for young people. Needless to say, it was a great experience and one I'll continue to draw from down the road. There was another thing that struck me during the conference, there are thousands of other youth ministry leaders who love the young people in our church and we'll never give up on them or the families we serve. God is good, ALL THE TIME, ALL THE TIME, God is good. (You have to know this if you're at a conference.) Peace, Nathan
